Jailbreaking iPhone 3G & Cool Apps
So several weeks ago I sold my old iPhone 8gig (2G) to a friend and purchased the new iPhone 3G 16gig. I heard some negative reviews about the new 3G version, but I decided to experience it for my self. So far I love the new version, the speed of the internet on 3G is no where comparable to the EDGE network AT&T provides.
I also saw really cool iPhone apps that were not available in the iTunes App store and decided to Jailbreak it to get the apps. I used QuickPwn to do jailbreak it. Overall it was a quick and painless process and after 10 minutes I was already trying the new apps that came with Cydia Installer.
The top app I was excited to try out was from QIK.com, it allows you to stream live video from your iPhone to the web. I setup my personal DENISTV Channel on Qik to experiment and stream live whenever I want to. Qik also archives the recorded video on their servers to reference or embed for later purposes. I will be experimenting with this as I travel.
PDANet is a neat app that turns your iPhone into a true WiFi router for your computer (MAC or PC), and allows your laptop to go online wirelessly through the 3G network on the iPhone. I often work at locations where Wifi Access is protected or non-existant so this app allows me to connect my laptop to a highspeed internet connection throigh my iPhone – HOW COOL IS THAT?
Here is a screen shot i took of how it connects to my Dell Insipiron 700m:

I also love the Cycorder app that allows you to record videos on your iPhone – a functionality that doesnt exist on a non jailbroken iPhone.
If you are a fan of YouTube.com then MxTube is the app for you – it actually allows you to download videos from YouTube. I downloaded several of my favorite videos that I can watch anytime.
There are few other apps like Pandora and Facebook that I find myself using frequently and work much better on the 3G network.
Overall I am very happy with the switch to the new iPhone. Looking forward to see these apps actually coming to the App Store so that we do not have to Jailbreak the iPhones.

T-Mobile Sidekick 3 Launch
Today, T-mobile released Sidekick 3!

I have used my T-mobile Sidekick 2 for the past year and really love the features and useable interfaces that this device has to offer. Some of the most used features for me would be full E-mail functionality, Sync with Microsoft Outlook and Instant messaging on the AIM network. The built-in camera also came in handy during some traveling when I had to email someone a photo straight from my sidekick.
The price for the new unit is $299 with two year contract and $399 for one year.
For sale starting 7/10. Your social lifeline – now in a sleeker, sexier package. The Sidekick 3 lets you stay connected the way you want, when you want. Talk, text, IM, e-mail – it’s up to you. You can even surf the real Internet – not watered-down Web sites. Bring your music with you everywhere thanks to the built-in MP3 player – and capture the action with the 1.3 megapixel camera.
